How to furnish the balcony

Decorating a balcony may seem like a difficult task if you have limited space or are short on time, but with our advice it will be easier. The balcony is an extension of the interior space and, in addition, provides comfort and relaxation during the summer.

First of all, make sure that your balcony furniture is weatherproof as well as aesthetically pleasing. Furniture that is too cheap tends to last a short time and deteriorate easily due to weather phenomena.

Atmospheric phenomena

Before selecting furniture for your balcony, study the climate around you. Is it hot and sunny, humid or rainy? Finding the answer to these questions is essential to recognize the weak points of your balcony. For example, if there is too much sun you will have to buy a parasol, an awning or build a pergola to protect your furniture from sunlight. In addition, wind or humidity can damage furniture: humidity is the enemy of metal and wicker, wind of light and fragile materials. For this reason, annually treat materials such as wood, which can easily become chipped or damaged. Your ally is resin: a waterproof material available in different colors and finishes, perfect for your balcony.

The space available

Study the shape of the space you have available before furnishing your balcony. Its structure, whether narrow or wide, can make a difference in the choice of furniture. In fact, the shape of the outdoor space influences the size of tables and chairs, which must be proportionate to the surrounding area. Also, remember to leave enough space between one piece of furniture and another so as not to obstruct the passage.

Convenience first

To make your balcony a great place to relax, use soft, high-quality outdoor fabrics to decorate the seats. We recommend fabrics that are washable and resistant to fading, wind and mold. Also, remember to put away the cushions in the cold months to prevent them from getting ruined by the weather. The use of soft and practical materials, attention to detail and the use of various accessories will make your balcony comfortable and welcoming. The arrangements you choose, however, must be in harmony with each other from a chromatic point of view. Therefore, choose a limited color palette so that your eyes can also relax.

Gear up for winter

To be ready for the arrival of winter, it is best to find a place to store your balcony furniture to protect it from the elements. Since even partial covers may not be enough, another option is to buy foldable furniture and then cover it with a tarp at the end of the season. If you do not have much space, buy a multifunctional folding seat, where you can store cushions, fabrics or similar accessories.

The lighting

To make your balcony look interesting, pay attention to the lighting. A dark or poorly lit balcony can look dull and sad, losing all its potential. Remember that you have casual alternatives such as string lights or floor lamps, but do not exceed 40-60 lux for outdoor lighting. This way, you will avoid glare, you will not have to buy too many accessories to light your balcony well and you will be able to choose the best option for you.
