Una chiacchierata con Kathrine, co-founder di AYTM

A chat with Kathrine, co-founder of AYTM

What is the biggest plus of working in the creative field in Scandinavia?

Design is part of our cultural heritage in Denmark and AYTM has roots in Danish design, which is a great advantage when it comes to export. Even though our design is not typically Danish, because we have a more international style, but you can still see the Danish simplicity in our creations.

Although AYTM is a young brand, in a few years it has achieved great success. What is, in your opinion, the reason for this success?

We believe that the reason for our success is that our design fits different types of homes, restaurants, hotels, and that we have affordable prices. In addition, we have the same shapes and lines on different products, which means a constant underlying harmony.

What is your approach to design?

Designing our products is a constantly evolving process for our design team, who do not design for the season but for the brand. We discuss the products we would like to include in the collection, but also how we can maintain our DNA and make sure that the new products fit in with the existing ones.

Scandinavia is known for its rich history of design and craftsmanship, how could this have influenced the concept of AYTM in any way?

The way it influenced our concept is that for us, products have to last. A certain style and a certain level of quality that is consistent, so that consumers will keep them in their homes for many years to come.
Compared to other Scandinavian/Danish brands, we don't work much with wood, but we play more with glass, metals and fabrics. In this way we are not directly associated with history and tradition!

What has been the biggest challenge for the brand so far since the inception of AYTM in 2015?

There were actually not many challenges, so to speak, since we have been working in this sector, producing private labels for other brands and furniture chains and therefore we had a lot of know-how within the company when we started working with the entire supply chain.

What drives AYTM and what does it want to achieve? and what does it aim to achieve with its design?

We try to create models that are simple in shape, but simple in shape, but still have a luxurious look and that fit into different types of homes, restaurants, hotels, etc. From the typical Nordic scene to the most Nordic to the most luxurious.

From the creative process to the finished product, where does AYTM look for inspiration and ideas for the collections?

Much of our inspiration comes from nature and art that we find around the world. And of course we observe what happens around us, but we try to try to design from what we have described as the DNA of the brand and not just do as others
in terms of colors, shapes, trends, etc.
