Renovating an ancient property
The renovation of an ancient property that's been bought only recently needs to be a thoroughly pondered decision. And for it to be absolutely spot on, you must focus on the following basics, that will make a perfect residence out of your ancient property. Planimetry The house planimetry helps you consider all space management possibilities that could potentially come to life. Additionally, it is possible to adapt your ancient property to your current preferences if you are provided with each room's measurements, so as to redesign spaces whilst taking it easy. The house structure The original house structure can influence the architectural interventions that will be carried out inside it. For instance, the way bearing walls or pillars are placed has an impact on the design of the space, which is difficult to modify. Room distribution, in fact, is a crucial factor in renovating an ancient property. Wall height We quite often neglect wall height and how much free space there is, even though it plays a decisive role in house refurbishment. As we carry out architectural interventions to reorganize spaces, we suggest installing a false ceiling, that will facilitate the placement of embedded lights and air conditioning, should they be necessary. Therefore, when you visit the ancient property you have set your heart on, take a look at the vertical space each room has and lightly hit the walls with your knuckles, to see if there's a false ceiling or not. Should it be the case, it'll be a lot easier to measure your installations in advance. Humidity Humidity is a sensitive topic, considering how long it takes to carry out potential repair. The way water behaves is unpredictable, thus meaning that a solution can only be found through trial and error most of the times. Therefore, we suggest taking a careful look at each wall in your ancient property, which, due to the passing of time, may present infiltrations or leaks.
Learn moreRefurbishing a small house
It is quite challenging to refurbish a small home, but with our advice you'll be able to take on this challenge much more easily. Furniture proportion Instead of reducing the size of your furniture, cut down on the amount of it. A smaller quantity but of average size will go a lot longer than lots of miniature furniture. Furniture dimension plays a big role in refurbishing your small home. Although the refurbishment of your home might represent a challenge, writing down a list of priorities and buying essentials only can definitely be of help. Strategic mirror placement Mirrors have the power of reflecting light and making rooms seem bigger. In order to profit from this feature, place them strategically, for instance in front of windows or open doors so as to reflect the outer space inwards. Placement is as important as reflection. And as a reminder: it's better to have a large mirror than several tiny ones. Light and neutral tones Light tones contribute to rooms looking larger and more luminous. Classic neutral tones, on the other hand, are easier to combine and they almost never run out of style. Create a blank canvas to have fun with and highlight vibrant colors against a neutral background. Lightweight furniture A simple trick not to make your living space look overloaded with furniture: use lightweight furniture that does not adhere to the ground and has thin legs. In so doing, spaces will look amplified and the lack of space in your room will not be as prominent. Paintings: just a few big ones Hanging a few large paintings will make walls seem easier on the eyes and your living space opener. On the contrary, a wall full of several tiny paintings can be quite overwhelming and make rooms look smaller. This tip makes the room spacious and bright, without overcharging your living space. Additionally, another useful optical illusion that makes walls seem higher is to place paintings close to furniture rather than to the ceiling.

Learn more5 tips for a welcoming home
One of the most gratifying aspects of designing your home is to share it with others. Here you will find 5 useful tips to make your home welcoming and guest-ready. Bear in mind: a good design welcomes you with a hug into a comforting space that's perfect for sharing experiences and memories with your guests. Quality over quantity Everybody appreciates simplicity. It's easy to let yourself be overtaken by the urge to take care of every single detail when refurbishing your home and consequently overcharging it. This method can be heavy on a guest's eyes though. We suggest focusing on a single element in the room to avoid a lack in freshness and simplicity. Whether you're going for a vintage fireplace in the living room or a marble surface in the kitchen, it's useful to surround the room's protagonist with tiny, discreet details that will emphasize it. Large, comfortable seats In a welcoming home one cannot forgo large, comfortable seats where to gather, chat, or simply take a rest together. Adding a velvet ottoman close to the sofa or a vintage armchair close to the bookcase will provide your home with a touch of style without compromising comfort. Soft accessories for a welcoming atmosphere You can count on an invincible ally when inviting guests over: soft textiles. Fluffy cotton cushions, wool plaids and baskets decorated with comfy blankets placed next to the sofa will immediately make your home welcoming and utterly irresistible. Welcome trays A tray in the kitchen, at the entrance, on the night table or in the living room, is not just a useful tool to save space and store your remote or jewels, but it can also represent a welcome note when paired with a scented candle, a token or a bunch of flowers on top Set up an unforgettable bedroom Creating a dreamy, enviable bedroom for your guests is simple: play with fabric textures when placing blankets, cushions and plaids; add some final decorative touches with vases, jewel cases, candles and personalized objects that will make your room cozy and comfortable. There is no such thing as a welcoming home without a perfect bedroom!

Learn moreA modern twist on your terrace
As soon as summertime approaches, we suddenly feel the urge to restyle our terrace to make the best of it while we can. Here is how to do it: A modern terrace is based on three basic principles: design, lighting and greenery. Reliable design – a matter of quality Good design will protect your furniture from continuous sunlight, humidity and wind, which can cause it to deteriorate over time. Therefore, it is recommendable to go for resistant, long-lasting and high-quality materials that endure every weather condition. Another thing to take into consideration is maintenance: good design requires not only durability, but also ease of maintenance. The best materials for refurbishing your modern terrace are steel, forged and galvanized iron, leather, stone and synthetic fibres: they are timeless, durable options for your terrace. After ticking these two items off your list, your modern terrace will be an everlasting success! Outdoor lighting Outdoor lighting can make a big difference when refurbishing your terrace. It is important to not only take direct light into consideration, but also that which contributes to the fuzzy, laid-back atmosphere we are striving for. Soft, dim light makes your open space dreamy and romantic. A subdued effect can be accomplished by placing moderate light sources next to plants, corners or on the floor. Bear in mind: light should never be blinding! Greenery - an undisputed protagonist Your modern terrace is where greenery can flourish and take up space in all its glory. A terrace without plants or flowers looks unfinished and almost lifeless. It is crucial to strategically place a few plants here and there to prevent this from happening and to make your terrace a welcoming space. Additionally, a space that is in tune with nature is more inherently soothing to the mind and will help you wind down on summer nights or after a long day of work. When choosing which plants to buy, we suggest playing with colors, textures and sizes that will resist both summer heat and wind breeze. A horizon to be shared A key factor in refurbishing your terrace is the removal of everything superfluous that might deprive it of its intrinsically open and welcoming nature. Stepping onto your terrace should feel like a breath of fresh air that unfolds into the distance. Therefore, we suggest placing outdoor furniture toward a pleasant view, so as to share it with family and friends. It is counterproductive to place furniture in the middle of the terrace facing away from the horizon, especially in an area endowed with greenery or a beautiful sunset.

The space that is meant to exude and capture good mood. Here is a guide on how to make it modern, without compromising on personality. Simplify your color palette A minimalist style really does come in handy when refurbishing your living room. It makes space look vaster and more in tune with contemporary design styles. A new sofa The role a sofa plays in your modern living room is unbelievable. By switching your outdated sofa with a more contemporary one, your modern living room will feel instantly rejuvenated. Look after the walls In order to look after you living room walls, you need to take upkeep into consideration. Learn moreRestylit: online interior design to help the hospitality sector reopen
Without having to leave home for a consultation, the Restylit startup guides online all entrepreneurs who want to rethink their premises and make it safe, without having to wait biblical times and spend excessive sums of money with Restylit . MILAN – In a crucial moment for the Italian economy, in which everyone is thinking together about a reopening that allows entrepreneurs and employees to return to work while minimizing the risk of contagion, possible solutions must be sought and analyzed carefully. The hospitality and public establishments sector needs today more than ever to rethink themselves, evolve in terms of spaces and services. How can we do this without making mistakes and wasting energy and resources? Turning to professionals is definitely the way. This is why we spoke with the team at Restylit , a self-financed startup founded in 2018. The first online interior design company in Italy, but with a long history behind it: a 65-year legacy closely linked to the evolution of Italian residential architecture and hospitality. That is, the business that is closest to the heart of this company and on which it acts, especially today, to respond to the new needs of the market in the face of the virus. Where Restylit's vocation for Hospitality comes from “The vocation for this splendid world comes mainly from two factors: the family business we come from, a historic Italian architectural firm that has worked a lot in the design and construction of buildings related to hospitality (especially hotels and tourist complexes) and the personality of the two co-founders of Restylit combined with that of the team, with a great love for travel and experiences that allow you to “live” the place you are in, therefore frequenting many restaurants, hotels and bars.” What is interior design-online for the Italian public who still knows little about it? “Today online interior design is particularly linked to online shopping for furniture and decor, in our country. It means that Italians are close to interior design if we talk about renewing the look of their furniture but still not accustomed to having the spaces entirely designed by an interior architect, even less online. In this explanation we find the meaning for which we were born! This as far as the private sector is concerned. In B2B or hospitality, we find entrepreneurs who are already aware of the importance of interior design and here the challenge is on the one hand to continue to make people understand the importance of a high-level location for the experience to be offered to the customer and on the other to make them understand how this can be achieved with the help of a company that operates online and with a lot of experience in the sector. This means economic savings and speed of execution . We believe that this can bring the sector even closer to our work. How does it work for the customer who is at home these days and wants to rethink his place? "We do everything online, so we are used to interacting with people from all over the world. Each customer has an interior designer available to support them in the realization of their projects. We are talking about figures ranging from 15 to 50 euros per square meter for a complete renovation project. But there is more: our online furniture and decor shop offers the possibility of being supported for free by one of our interior designers in choosing the best furnishings. Returning to the initial question, in these complex days we must all hope that future government interventions can somehow facilitate the future challenges of the sector, also by simplifying at a regulatory level the procedures necessary to make changes to your premises. The points that are certainly worth thinking about now are: the new layout of the premises, safety measures, the commercial offer and the new business plan as well as communication and marketing for the restart.” Why investing in interior design today, in a time of crisis, will pay off in the near future? “Investing in interior design always pays off in this sector. At this time when you necessarily have to review some things like redesigning the layout of a room or creating a mezzanine, it could be smart to take advantage of the opportunity to renovate the spaces with the help of a professional in order to have an immediate (and necessary) advantage but also one in the long term. At Restylit we always try to create environments that reflect our Italian DNA. Locations with a timeless design that can excite for at least another 20 years.” What can be the ways for the future of bars for a service that makes customers feel safe, in the reorganization of spaces against crowding? “We must necessarily wait for the regulatory provisions in this sense but it seems necessary to have to respect almost two meters of distance between the tables. Another fundamental theme will be to think about the service at the counter , distancing both the operators and the customers. We have started to think about plexiglass dividers that are not aseptic, but rather become design elements that drop from the ceiling and with particular workmanship. For anyone who has a kitchen, home delivery will be a very important asset to exploit, as well as, even more so, those who have outdoor areas and spaces.” How to rethink table service? “It will be a mix of new regulations and common sense, trying to create paths and service methods that guarantee adequate social distancing with customers. The use of gloves and masks will probably be mandatory, as well as sanitizing devices on each table. And it will obviously be necessary to sanitize tables and chairs after each customer. But it's also fun to think about playing with real large plexiglass elements to separate the tables, creating geometric patterns and plays of light, which become new paths inside the venue , ensuring social distancing and relative safety." Will consumption at the counter be possible again despite the virus, by redesigning the spaces? “We hope so: the counter is often the central element of our projects and the true soul of a bar. As we were saying, there will be some measures to take, such as plexiglass (but let's make it a design thing!) to separate customers from operators, but we hope we can continue to experience the counter of a bar, between social distancing and frequent sanitizations.” What can interior design help us imagine for a contagion-proof outdoor area? “For those who have it, outdoor space will be an important resource for facing the coming months. Because social distancing becomes simpler and more effective and because even a restaurant, for example, will be able to use this space to encourage unexplored consumption opportunities (brunch, aperitifs, tastings). The trick here is to create spaces that reflect the care of the historic interiors , perhaps with a pinch of innovation. Mixed designer tables and chairs and a clever play of lights can be enough for a wow effect that encourages the location's instagrammability. We will find ourselves frequenting many places equipped with classy outdoor spaces where we can experience moments of relaxation and tell friends and relatives about it. The costs with Restylit are quite affordable , interior design consultancy included. We are talking about average figures ranging from 1,500 to 6,000 euros to create a dream outdoor area for a bar. The cost obviously varies depending on the number of seats, the type of furniture and the base from which we start (if possible we enhance what is already available).” What can you offer hospitality managers in this critical moment? “At this moment the greatest, immediate and accessible support we can give obviously concerns the furniture and the new layout of the premises and tables. We are trying to offer this service and consultancy free of charge to as many operators in the sector as possible, all those who buy from us in our online shop. We have already worked on some furniture groups depending on the mood you want to give plug & play ready to be delivered and installed for a wow effect.”
Learn moreA chat with Kathrine, co-founder of AYTM
What is the biggest plus of working in the creative field in Scandinavia? Design is part of our cultural heritage in Denmark and AYTM has roots in Danish design, which is a great advantage when it comes to export. Even though our design is not typically Danish, because we have a more international style, but you can still see the Danish simplicity in our creations. Although AYTM is a young brand, in a few years it has achieved great success. What is, in your opinion, the reason for this success? We believe that the reason for our success is that our design fits different types of homes, restaurants, hotels, and that we have affordable prices. In addition, we have the same shapes and lines on different products, which means a constant underlying harmony. What is your approach to design? Designing our products is a constantly evolving process for our design team, who do not design for the season but for the brand. We discuss the products we would like to include in the collection, but also how we can maintain our DNA and make sure that the new products fit in with the existing ones. Scandinavia is known for its rich history of design and craftsmanship, how could this have influenced the concept of AYTM in any way? The way it influenced our concept is that for us, products have to last. A certain style and a certain level of quality that is consistent, so that consumers will keep them in their homes for many years to come. Compared to other Scandinavian/Danish brands, we don't work much with wood, but we play more with glass, metals and fabrics. In this way we are not directly associated with history and tradition! What has been the biggest challenge for the brand so far since the inception of AYTM in 2015? There were actually not many challenges, so to speak, since we have been working in this sector, producing private labels for other brands and furniture chains and therefore we had a lot of know-how within the company when we started working with the entire supply chain. What drives AYTM and what does it want to achieve? and what does it aim to achieve with its design? We try to create models that are simple in shape, but simple in shape, but still have a luxurious look and that fit into different types of homes, restaurants, hotels, etc. From the typical Nordic scene to the most Nordic to the most luxurious. From the creative process to the finished product, where does AYTM look for inspiration and ideas for the collections? Much of our inspiration comes from nature and art that we find around the world. And of course we observe what happens around us, but we try to try to design from what we have described as the DNA of the brand and not just do as others in terms of colors, shapes, trends, etc. Discover the AYTM collection on Restylit.com and design your home with our interior designers!
